miscellany monday: weekend, superbad, constitution day

We had planned to go to the Airshow on Saturday, but because it rained late into the afternoon, we never made it. Bummer. However, my Aunt Alice took a bunch of great pictures which you can see, if you’re interested, by visiting her Flickr page.

Besides missing the Airshow, the weekend was just busy — lots of chores. I cleaned out my closet a bit and managed to get rid some stuff including seven pairs of shoes. Yes, you read that right — I, of shoe hoarding fame, got rid of some shoes. The sad thing is that even after eliminating seven pairs, I still have over 40 pairs remaining…and that doesn’t even include all the sandals and flip-flops. I’m starting to sound a little crazy, aren’t I? Back to my boring weekend… I also re-potted a very large plant, sorted some things into plastic storage bins in the garage and used my handy-dandy label-maker to label the bins. Have I mentioned how much I love my label-maker? A lot. And there’s the crazy again… Anyway, after that I turned my attention to the uninsulated room off the back of our house that we (un)affectionately refer to as “the shed.” Basically, we use it as a recycling center/gardening shed/dumping ground for whenever we have people coming over and need to hide stuff fast. Needless to say, it’s always messy. Well, not after yesterday, dammit! All the gardening supplies are organized onto shelves and the recycling bins are grouped in one area. Ah, I can breathe a small sigh of relief as organization reigns once again. At least until we finally get around to tearing that room apart to make it into a half-bath/laundry room… While I was doing all that, Joel was keeping busy as well. He did several loads of laundry, vacuumed the entire house, cleaned the bathroom, re-wired our internet connection, and removed the old TV antenna from the roof. Oh, and dug me a hole so I could plant a climbing hydrangea that we bought months ago. (Whoa, now that I see it all in print, it seems like a lot more — seriously, the man is a machine!)

Wow, I just realized how pathetic I sound going on and on about housekeeping and organizing and chores (oh, my). Fortunately, the weekend wasn’t all toil and drudgery — we got together with Kristen and Aaron for dinner and a movie on Saturday night. We always have a great time with them. Dinner was yummy — it involved roasted garlic and sangria, enough said. And then we went to see Superbad, which was, as Linda so aptly put it, superRAD. And super hilarous. As well as astonishingly crude-humored and foul-mouthed — not for the easily offended or the faint of heart, and definitely NOT PG-13, in my opinion. But did I mention that it’s funny? Laugh-out-loud funny, as long as you don’t mind getting in touch with your inner 17-year-old boy. Seriously, it’s the Porky’s/Fast Times at Ridgemont High for the (not so) new millennium. If you’ve seen Superbad and you’re a guy, please enlighten me: do teenage boys really think and talk to each other this way? If so, I may have to re-think every conversation I ever had with every guy during high school. Hm, I should get started on that…

By the way, Happy Constitution Day! Seems like a good excuse to review its content, doesn’t it? Enjoy!
